Having lots of interests and hobbies over the years, I've learned that it's rarely a good idea to go out and buy the best of everything when just starting out. In fact, I've kind of been drawn to things that don't require a lot of "stuff". Being an Iyengar Yoga practitioner, there is a purist mentality about mats, props, expensive "yoga" clothing, etc. You need nothing to practice yoga--there are things that are helpful, but never necessary. Getting back to golf, there's no getting around it--you need "stuff". So, I went to every local thrift store in my area (thankfully there's a high density of golfers in MN) and bought every club that looked like it was for a woman and the life hadn't been beaten out of it. What I ended up with is a rag-tag bunch of clubs, and a sweet bag I found at goodwill for $15. Now I had what I needed to start practicing. I try not to be embarrassed by my clubs and honor them for being tools that will help me learn to golf. That being said, once I get to a point where it's my clubs that are weakening my golf game (rather than my skills), those babies are history! Don't worry, i'll donate them to another girl just starting out, so they'll live on. . . again.
Learning life's lessons through golf, love, yoga & cocktails.
