We had scheduled a tee time for Saturday at 2:30. What started out as a beautiful day got windier and cloudier as the day progressed. I sat at a softball game around noon as people were huddled in blankets and the trees around the field looked like those on hurricane news reports, bending over sideways from the wind. Ok, so it crossed my mind that maybe it wouldn't be that fun to golf in such extreme wind--but I'm from Kansas, so the wind is nothing new to me. When we got to Halla Greens, there were one or two cars in the parking lot, and a bucket of abandoned balls at the driving range. For many folks, this would have been a perfectly good time to say, "let's golf another time and go sit inside somewhere!" But when you've got two optimists who love to do just about anything you say "We'll make it fun". So, after hitting balls at the range for a bit, I got a cup of coffee and we headed to the first tee.
The last time we were out on this course, we were paired with two older gentlemen who were seasoned golfers. On my first tee shot, I totally missed the ball-but this time, with no external audience, and wearing my new shoes, my tee shot landed right near the back of the green. A chip shot later, I was putting for par--it was a May Day miracle! The wind really didn't seem to be a factor, and we were bundled up pretty well. Like the saying goes "There's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing". My golf coach/boyfriend told me on the 8th hole that it was the best hole I'd ever played. It must have been the shoes.
My first pair of golf shoes. After slipping around a little on tee shots last time out, I decided to purchase a real pair of golf shoes. I have to warn you, I am VERY picky about shoes. I don't choose shoes simply because they are comfortable, or functional, in fact I often search for the exact opposite of these adjectives when selecting shoes. However, I realized that I'd be walking long distances and hopefully spending lots of time in these shoes, so I did allow myself to "try" a few pairs that didn't meet my fashion standards. I didn't want anything that looked old-fashioned or that would take away from the golf ensembles too much. I tried on several pairs of callaway's and footjoys but honestly, I couldn't find a single pair that I could bring myself to pay to wear. I ended up buying a pair of low-profile nike's with light bottoms at golf usa. We just played nine at Halla, but they were super comfortable, and they stayed clean and white even with some wetness on the greens.
Steph's Stats:
Balls lost: 0
Balls missed completely: 0
Most embarrassing moment: getting ready to do a downward dog on the course while waiting to tee off, and the trash collectors came driving through
Most helpful golf tip: shorten the back swing on the putts
